FRANZ VON VECSEY / FERENC VECSEY | Valse triste | DOUBLE BASS & PIANO
FILE FORMAT: PDF | 300 dpi | 6 pages
PARTS INCLUDED: piano score in C minor and two parts for solo double bass
DOUBLE BASS SCORDATURA: for GDAE and for cGDA (transp. in F), both versions sound in C minor
SOURCE: original Vecsey's composition for violin and piano | adapted for double bass & piano by Tivadar Mohácsi & Božo Paradžik
COMMENT: the piece sounds quite lovely in a traditional "orchestra" tuning in fourths (just like in the video below). The scordatura in F enables the possibility to play the theme also an octave higher and to play the otherwise tricky final arco note (the highest in the piece) as a C² harmonic (second octave), that doesn't exist in the GDAE tuning. The piano score is available only in the original key, in C minor as it is in my opinion important in this piece. The double bass part in AEBF# tuning would get very uncomfortable in B flat minor, therefore it is not available by default. If a purchaser would desire it anyway, I can gladly transpose it: it just doesn't make so much sense in my opinion.
