YOU DO NOT BUY THIS ALBUM, YOU SHARE
Giovanni Bottesini (1821-1889) is a cult figure and his beautiful but technically difficult compositions are much appreciated among double bass players. In January 2000, I played a successful recital with Ulrich Rademacher in Europe's oldest stand-alone concert hall. The concert was recorded using the latest professional audio recording technology, and the programme included several of Bottesini's works. This laid the foundation for a Bottesini album, which I wanted to complete soon. But 21 years were to pass before today arrived. In the course of time I got the desire to combine Bottesini's compositions with a couple of works by Gioachino Rossini, for me one of the greatest geniuses in the history of music. I realised two of my very special dreams with Rossini's music. First one: I finally played a duet with my revered professor with whom I studied, something I had wished for my whole career. And second one: I successfully arranged an extremely rarely performed work by Rossini for a solo string instrument (violoncello or double bass) with piano, and I performed this work as a surprize: birthday present at the celebratory concert for my professor's 60th birthday in Prague in 2013, the only time I have perfromed this piece in my career.
The year 2021 was a "Bottesini year", one of the most important double bassists of all time was born 200 years ago. I could not think of a better day for this album's release than the last day of this year, and the last day of the month in which both Bottesini and I were born. I would like to celebrate this great musician even after this year by recording virtually all of these works as a video production and releasing it on YouTube. I would also like to record the "duetto" by Gioachino Rossini as a video production with my former professor and current friend, Jiří Hudec, and publish it on YouTube. And now we have arrived at sharing: every client who buys this album will automatically help finance the planned video productions. Because a good YouTube video doesn't come for free. The rent of the concert hall, rent of the piano, travel and hotel expenses, rent of the professional audio and video recording equipment, engagement of the assistants and other costs are associated with a high-quality video production etc. Therefore, I do not thank everyone who buys this album just for the money, I thank you all for the recognition of my artistic work, and I am happy to share something in common with you. All those who buy the album now accelerate the process in which the new YouTube productions with these works will be created. And you can already enjoy listening to them now. As we say goodbye to the Bottesini year, I wish you today, 31 December 2021, a better New Year 2022 and even more joy in listening his elegant compositions.
