COMMENT: Edward Elgar’s Salut d’amour was composed in 1888. There are numerous arrangements (also by the composer himself). Double bass parts sounding in D major are matching Elgar’s autograph manuscript for violoncello. For unknown reasons it has never been released.
The double bass parts sounding in D major will however match the piano accompaniment of an arrangement in D major made by the original publisher, which was presumably done with Elgar’s approval. Double bass parts sounding in E major will match the accompaniment of the trusted musical text from the first edition for violin and piano (and with orchestra) by the original publisher, Schott & Co Ltd, 1899.
In addition, a double bass part sounding in C major (only one variant, for GDAE tuning) will match the arrangement for double bass and the piano accompaniment published 1980 by Belwin Mills. There are just few minor differences in the solo part here, mainly related to few bars where double bass performs an octave higher here (in editor's opinion, the arrangement sounds more convincing that way). This release does not contain any accompaniment. Piano accompaniment in D major and in E major was at the moment of this release available for free in the internet. Orchestra accompaniment can also be easily purchased in the internet. The C major piano accompaniment by Belwin Mills Edition can be ordered in your local sheet music store.
