VAŇHAL Concerto | double edition in C and in D | FULL ORCHESTRA

JAN BAPTISTE VAŇHAL  |  Concerto    for double bass and orchestra | DOUBLE EDITION ORCHESTRA SHEET MUSIC in  C MAJOR and in D MAJOR
URTEXT vs THIS VERSION  |  all the parts are kept as close as possible to the source except the transposing from E flat major (original key) down to D major or to C major
SOURCE: historic hand written orchestral parts by M. Sperger, archived in the State Library Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Schwerin (D) under signature No 5512
EXTRAS: this release contains two  entire sheet music sets of the concerto, the parts contain cue notes and are optimized for easy page turning
FILE FORMAT: PDF | 300 dpi - extremely high quality | 125 pages
SOLOIST'S SCORDATURA: this release will match the needs of the majority of today's double bass solists, who perform their solo part either in "Viennese" tuning in D major, or those who tune their instruments in fourths and grip in C major (in GDAE "orchestra" tuning to sound in C major, or in AEBF# "solo tuning" to sound in D major)
RELEASE: final
PARTS LIST:

  • Full conductor's scores in C major and in D major
  • Solo double bass parts (includes historic cadenzas to all three movements composed by Václav Pichl and all tutti double bass passages between the solo entrances) in C major and in D major
  • 2 Oboas (parts in C major and in D major)
  • 2 Horns (in C and in D)
  • Timpani - optional (C/G and D/A)
  • Strings in C major and in D major: 1st violins, 2nd violins, violas, bassi (vcl & cb)

COMMENT: both versions of this release are kept as close as possible to the Urtext.  After transposing from the source down to D major or especially down to C major, some tones got out of the compass of the violins so the only changes done here are related to solve such situations (for example the violas are playing such tones instead of the violins). All the articulations, slurs and dynamic marks here are kept just as they are in the historic source.

Timpani part was composed by myself. Timpani can be used optionally, but it is not crucial for the performance to use them. Listen on this example how the orchestra with timpani sounds (1st movement in an E major version, otherwise almost identic like the versions in C and in D):
