MATTHEWES, Daniel (*1999) | Sonata for double bass and piano | DOUBLE BASS & PIANO
FILE FORMAT: PDF | 300 dpi
SCORES: Double Bass & Piano | 33 pages
SCORDATURA: in D (AEBF#)
COMMENT: The sonata for double bass and piano was composed by my multi-talented student Daniel Matthewes in 2018. He dedicated it to my other student Clara Heilborn and the leitmotif C-A-H-E comes from this name. It is a short, compact sonata in four movements. The first movement is very calm, almost meditative, in complete contrast to the second movement ("Allegro von fuoco"), where the leitmotif is processed most strongly. The third movement begins with a small cadenza for the double bass, followed by a waltz-like part. The movement closes with a variation of the leitmotif. The fourth movement is a lively piece that rounds off the sonata. The sonata was premiered by Clara Heilborn on double bass and the composer on piano. The piece is composed for solo tuning.
