COMMENTS:
The octaves in the piano part have been slightly adapted from the original solo piano version to correspond more naturally with the lower version of the solo cello part. This lower version is in the same octave as the double bass version heard in the video example below. In the arranger’s opinion, the piece loses none of its charm through these adjustments; it remains equally effective when the melody is performed an octave higher.
This instrumentation also provides an excellent basis for accompaniment by string orchestra. The orchestration has already been completed, although it has not yet been tested in performance. The orchestral material will be published at a later stage.
