COMMENT: famous slow movement from Mahler's 2nd Symphony adapted by myself for four double basses. Inspired by an excellent arrangement of the "Urlicht" from "Des Knaben Wunderhorn" for quartet of double basses by Zdeněk Pazourek, I have decided to adapt also Mahler's musical vision of the "Primal Light" from his 2nd Symphony, which differs in plenty of details, also the key of the piece is different (D flat major). High quality chamber music for skillful players.
NOTES TO FIRST PART: While all four double bass parts are printed for GDAE tuning, the first voice is recommended to be performed rather in cGDA tuning. High C string will sound more natural in the high register and all tones will be within reach. Otherwise, the passages which may contain tones out of the reach of fingerboard are in the GDAE part marked with "8va" when it could als sound fine an octave lower, with two tested ossias at the end of the piece for the fingerboards with E flat, respectively D flat as the highest possible tone.
